Michelle Walls crowned Miss Hagerstown Speedway

Race fans at Hagerstown Speedway may be familiar with the name Michelle Walls as a competitor in the Pure Stock division over the last few seasons. Now, the 18 year old resident of Hanover, Pennsylvania can add the title of 2017 Miss Hagerstown Speedway to her racing resume.

Walls was presented with the honors at the conclusion of Race-A-Rama at the Valley Mall in Hagerstown on March 10. She is daughter of Mike and Chrissy Walls.

Her favorite racetrack is Hagerstown Speedway, and her favorite driver is her father. Besides racing, Walls enjoys four-wheeling and meeting new people.

When asked on why she wanted to compete in the pageant, Walls said: “I decided to run for Miss Hagerstown Speedway because I thought it would be a fun experience. I absolutely love to meet new people and love to interact with all the drivers among various divisions. I also thought since I have been in the racing community for my whole life it would be worth a chance to compete.”

We all at Hagerstown Speedway would like to congratulate Michelle Walls on her new endeavor as an ambassador and representative of “The Capitol of Dirt Racing” during our 70th anniversary season.

Remembering Al Richards

Former Late Model competitor Al Richards passed away on February 28, 2017 in York, Pennsylvania.

Richards was 68 years old.

Well known for his entries featuring the No.4 spelled out in the word FOUR on side of his and his brother Bill’s racers, Richards was the 1994 Late Model Track Champion, and was inducted into the Hagerstown Speedway Hall of Fame in 2006.

Richards was a solid competitor for many years winning at other area tracks as well. He finished with five career feature wins at Hagerstown in a racing career that began in 1976, winning his first at the Hub City oval in 1978.

All of us at Hagerstown Speedway wish to send our sincerest condolences and sympathy to his family.

Al Richards will always be remembered as a champion.
