The night started out with plenty of excitement as the Pure Stock Division got things started. The second row of cars made it four wide on the initial start causing the 2+2 of Cody Kershner and the six of Wayne Hawbaker to wreck. Kershner would regain his initial starting spot of third and would charge to the front shortly after. With five laps to go, the 2+2 pulled off the track with engine troubles as Jamey Swank would go on to score the victory.

“That was one heck of a race,” Swank said. “We were at the right place at the right time.”

Jeremy Tinsman finished second and Deakon Snyder finished third.

The Late Model Sportsman Feature also had trouble at the very start of the race. The 151 of Kyle Lear and 19 of Danny Atherton got together sending the 151 to hit the inside wall hard, causing a red flag. Once the race got restarted, the 39 of Ryan Walls took the early commanding lead. At lap eight, the 92 of Frankie Gordon traded the lead with Walls for a few laps. Eight laps in, Walls took the lead for the final time and never looked back.

“I wanted new tires for the cars before the race, checked the budget and decided not to get them,” Walls said. “It turned out we didn’t need them.”

Taylor Farlling finished second and Donnie Farlling finished third.

Next was the Mid Atlantic Modified Feature and it was a dominate performance from former NASCAR star David Stremme as he led flag to flag. In the middle of the race, the seven of Drake Troutman tried hard to catch Stremme and ran the cushion the entire time until he jumped it on lap 15. Stremme never looked back.

“We came down here to try some things,” Stremme said. “We really like this place; we will definitely be back.”

Michael Altobelli finished second and Drake Troutman finished third.

The night concluded with the Hobby Stock Feature that had plenty of action throughout. Codey Breeden and Trevor Larrick battled for most of the race, but a late race caution came out with three to go. Breeden would capitalize on his inside starting position and take the lead, never looking back.

“That caution saved me big time,” Breeden said. “It has been a tough season for us, so it feels good to finally get a good result.”

Lane Hessong finished second and Trevor Larrick finished third.

Dave Gube Takes Speedways First Sprint Car Feature of the Year, Justin Weavers captures Late Model Sportsman win, Lane Hessong wins Hobby Stock, and Jeremy Tinsman wins Pure Stock.

Jeremy Tinsman captured his second win of the season on Saturday night after taking the early lead, only to lose it briefly to Jason Stoner. At the conclusion of lap two, Tinsman took the lead and never looked back.

“I really wanted to run the bottom because I thought that was going to the best line,” Tinsman said. “It really took off from the get go and that really surprised me.”

Tinsman will look for three wins in a row next weekend.

Justin Weaver took the checkered flag in the Late Model Sportsman Feature. After starting fourth, Weaver made his way to the lead on lap four and never looked back in a dominant performance, leading 16 of 20 laps.

“I didn’t know how the night was going to go early on,” Weaver said. “We have overcome a lot of obstacles so it feels good to be in this position.”

The Late Model Sportsman division will be in action next weekend.

Dave Grube took the checkered flag in the speedway’s first sprint car race of the season. Grube took the early lead and almost gave it away when he jumped the cushion on lap nine. Brad Mellott fought hard trying to take the lead but could not pass Grube in the final laps.

“It took a lot of composure away when I made that mistake of jumping the cushion,” Grube said. “It was a lot of fun passing cars tonight.”

The IMCA Sprint Car Series returns on June 19.

Lane Hessong captured his first win of the season after passing Trevor Larrick halfway through the race. It wasn’t an easy feat for Hessong after a caution came out with one lap to go, forcing a restart at the end.

“I don’t know what that caution was for, but hey, it all worked out in my favor,” Hessong said. “The track was great and I had a lot of fun tonight for sure.”

Hobby Stocks will again be in action next weekend.

Satterlee/Troutman take honors Sunday

“Satterlee Sunday Star in Hagerstown’s Frank Sagi Tribute”/“Troutman Wires Field for Second E-Mod Score”

       (5/16/21)

Hagerstown, MD- Indiana Pennsylvania’s Gregg Satterlee drove to his first win of the season last Sunday nights 30-lap “Frank Sagi Tribute” at Hagerstown speedway. The win for Satterlee, worth $3500, came in his familiar Rocket no.22 and would be the 10th of his career at the venerable half-mile oval.

Satterlee shot from the pole into the lead at the initial drop of the green flag with Trever Feathers in tow. Satterlee built up a comfortable lead until Feathers ran him down and took the lead on the 17th lap. Feathers would lead until a caution bunched the field on lap-25 setting up a 5-lap dash for the win. When the green was displayed Satterlee charged around Feathers in turn one and would eventually pace the remaining circuits to post the win. “First off I have to thank Alan Sagi and everyone here at Hagerstown speedway for putting on this show.” Satterlee stated from victory lane. “If it hadn’t been for the caution I don’t think I would have caught Trever. Robbie Allen and all the crew gave me a great car tonight and I hope we put on a good show for all the fans.” Feathers was pleased with his runner up performance. “This is the best our car has been for the past two months.” Feathers said. “During the caution our tires cooled off and Gregg was able to get by, but were happy for second and will move on to the next race.” Matt Cosner, Tyler Bare and 14th starting Rick Eckert rounded out the top-five. Taking heat race wins for the 31 cars entered went to Satterlee, Feathers, Tyler Bare and Gary Stuhler with Colton Flinner winning the consolation.

Hyndman Pa’s Drake Troutman dominated the 25 lap Mid Atlantic Modified main for his second Hagerstown win of the season. Troutman darted from the pole and would lead every lap of the event that featured only one caution period. “Starting up front always helps and we were able to get the lead on the first lap.” Troutman quipped. “We’ve had a good car all season and to come here and get another win is an awesome feeling.” After a first lap caution that sent him to the rear of the field, Mike Altobelli Jr. stormed through the field for second with Steve Axtell Jr., Keith Jackson and Mike Franklin completing the top five. Heats for the 26 entries went to Altobelli, Troutman and Axtell.

MILLER TAKES WALLS TRIBUTE

Barry Miller wins Walls Tribute LMS Race, Jeremy Tinsman scores last lap pass to win Pure Stocks, Trevor Larrick leads every lap in Hobby Stock win, and Ray Love Jr. scores the victory in Crate Late Models

The 21 of Jakob Piper took the early lead and led for the first half of the race in the Late Model Sportsman event. Once he got to lap traffic, the 88 of Barry Miller caught and passed Piper. A caution came out just at the right time for Piper and he retook his lead back because the lap wasn’t completed. Miller took the lead for good on the restart and cruised to victory.

“Man, track position was everything for me tonight,” Miller said. “Lapped traffic really helped me tonight and that was the difference. It’s really special to win this race to say the least.”

Jeremy Tinsman wins in a thriller in Pure Stocks after passing Cody Kershner in the last corner. Kershner charged to the front early after starting fifth but could not hold off Tinsman in the end.

“I didn’t think our car was good in the beginning,” Tinsman said. “I started going to the top groove and that made our car a lot faster. I have never done a slide job in my life, and tonight it paid off.”

Trevor Larrick won a wild Hobby Stock Feature. The race saw six cautions, including a big four car pileup in turn one on the first lap that involved Scot Sipes, who was undefeated in the class going into the night. The 30-minute time limit came into effect at the end after multiple cautions plagued the event. Larrick won under the caution flag.

“We’ve been waiting a long time for this to happen,” Larrick said. “I wouldn’t be here without my sponsors. Without them, I wouldn’t be able to do this.”

Ray Love Jr. took the checkered flag in the Crate Late Model event. After a piece from the left front fender came loose early in the event, he still was able to keep great pace and pulled away to the easy victory.

“We missed the setup big time but thankfully our car took off on when I got up on the cushion,” Love Jr. said. “We had that body damage early, but we still managed to get the victory and that’s all I care about.”

The Interstate Battery Hard Charger Award is awarded to the driver who gains the most positions in the Pure Stock and Late Model Sportsman’s Divisions. Keith Koontz gained 15 positions in the Late Model division and Zachary Myers gained seven positions in Pure Stocks.

All of us at the Hagerstown Speedway would like to thank the Walls Family for putting on this incredible race every year. We look forward to doing it again in 2022.

McCreadie wins Nininger Memorial in last lap pass; Cody Kershner scores first victory of the season in Pure Stocks

Media_Results_4_17_2021

On a brisk mid-April evening, the fans turned out for the Lucas Oil Late Model event and saw a last lap pass for the win. Tim McCreadie passed Ricky Thornton Jr. in turn two coming to the checkered flag and scored the victory, claiming the $15,000 prize. Thornton led the first 49 laps of the event and lost it with less than a half mile to go.

“I have been trying to stay in shape during the downtime we have had the last couple weeks,” McCreadie said. “I am not getting any younger, and these guys are so young and so fast. Being here and seeing this crowd going but this is why we all do it.”

“I could hear him more than anything,” Thornton said. “I kind of screwed up a bit. I got too close to Devin Moran in lapped traffic. It’s part of the process as a driver once I get to lapped traffic and what you need to do to get by them. Congrats to Tim. It’s tough to lose on the last lap, but we have really good equipment.”

Jonathan Davenport finished in third position and made a late run at second battling McCreadie before he ended up getting around Thornton for the win.

“Those guys ahead of us had little harder left rear tires on then we did. Once we got rolling there it made me lose at the end. I tried to roll the outside and my tires got overheated.”

Gregg Satterlee finished fourth, and Tyler Erb rounded out the top five.

Cody Kershner took the checkered flag in the Pure Stock race after leading all 15 laps.

“It is just unbelievable to be driving this car,” Kershner said. “A month or so ago, I didn’t know that I was going to be racing this car and to be where we are today is truly remarkable.”

Jamie Zentmeyer received the Interstate Batteries hard charger of the race award by gaining five positions.
