HAGERSTOWN, MD – Winning two features in the same night was twice as nice for “Showtime” Kyle Lear and Jonathan Raley on Saturday night at Hagerstown Speedway as each driver doubled up with checkered flags at the end of the evening.
Lear has been the driver to beat in Late Model Sportsman competition all season at the Hub City oval. In the first feature, he blasted past early race leader Ralph Morgan up high off of turn two after a restart, and never looked back the rest of the was in the first Twin 15 Lap feature.
Lear drew an eight pill for the second feature inversion, and needed just a few more laps to get up to the front. Just as he passed Morgan after a restart in the first of two LMS features, the victim of an outside pass off of turn two after a restart was Michael Walls.
Lear drove his Valenzia Trucking No. 151 Rocket XR-1 to his sixth and seventh feature win of the 2017 season.
Lear said: “We actually made adjustments for the car to run the top, so we figured the cushion was gonna be there a little bit in this race, and hopefully the race track will widen out for that second one, and we’ll really get going.”
Raley picked up the wins in the Hobby Stock Twin 8’s with dominant drives in both contests. Raley started on the pole in the first feature and survived a few restarts and the challenges of Davey Gross, Jr. to get the first of two checkered flags.
Raley drew a ten pill for the second feature invert, and passed nine cars in the first lap before taking the lead away from Willie Ling on the second circuit.
Raley again had to endure a couple of restarts, but he drove his No.92 Camaro to his second and third feature win at Hagerstown on the season.
“To win some here, you know it’s a dream come true. This place is phenomenal, you know, it’s the best place to come race. I can’t thank everybody enough.”, said Raley in his victory lane interview.
Ridge Bookwalter and Craig Parrill split the Twin 10 Pure Stock features. Bookwalter started on the pole, and after three attempts to complete a lap, the field was forced to use a single-file start. Bookwalter drove away for a few laps before Parill began to eat away at his lead.
At the finish, Bookwalter held off and took his first Hagerstown win over Parrill by half a car length at the checkered flag.
Bookwalter drew a two invert pill, which put him outside of Parrill on the front row of the second feature. This time, Parrill drove away from the field to record his eighth Hagerstown Speedway triumph of the season.
