Rain Forces Cancellation of Lucas Oil Series

With persistent overnight rains into the morning, and a forecast of rain continuing throughout the day, officials at Hagerstown Speedway were forced to cancel the 36th annual Stanley Schetrompf Classic for the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series.

The combination of rain and cooler temperatures will not allow enough drying time to give our drivers a safe track to race on.

Unfortunately, this makes the third year out of four this race has been canceled due to inclement weather.

The LOLMDS will journey up the road to for the first time ever at Port Royal Speedway for their scheduled race on April 23. The Mason-Dixon Shootout Series for 358 Late Models will join them on the card. General admission gates open at 3pm.

Lucas Oil Series Coming to Hagerstown Speedway

The Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series is set to make their annual visit to Hagerstown Speedway on April 22 with the running of the 36th annual Stanley Schetrompf Classic.

The race is held in honor of Schetrompf, as he brought the famed Hub City oval to life in 1947.

Throughout the history of the Stanley Schetrompf Classic, the winner’s list of this prestigious event read of some of the best Dirt Late Model racers ever to race at Hagerstown Speedway.

Last year, Gregg Satterlee grabbed the upset win with a final lap pass of multi-time national champion Scott Bloomquist.

Six-time Schetrompf Classic winner Gary Stuhler already has two feature wins at Hagerstown in 2017, and has earned a guaranteed qualified position in this year’s running. He will be going to battle in the 60 Lap, $12,000 to-win main event against the likes of previous Schetrompf Classic winners Satterlee, Jimmy Owens, and Josh Richards.

Bloomquist has never won a Schetrompf Classic, and he will be looking to add this win to his resume. With the way the racing has been this season at Hagerstown, this night is shaping up to be one of the biggest and best races of the year.

Joining the LOLMDS on the card will be the Pure Stock division racing for double points and extra money in a 15 Lap feature race.

Pit gates open at 2pm, and general admission gates open at 5pm. Hot laps are scheduled to begin at 7pm. General admission is $32, reserved seats are $35, and pit admission is $45.

Free camping is available Friday and Saturday for those wishing to stay at the track. All units must be self-contained, no hook-ups on site.

Stuhler Claims Hagerstown Speedway Lucas Oil Qualifier

HAGERSTOWN, MD – Gary Stuhler drove to a second Super Late Model feature win of the 2017 season at Hagerstown Speedway. In doing so, he claimed a guaranteed starting spot in the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series sanctioned Stanley Schetrompf Classic on April 22.

After a rain delay of 2 ½ hours, track officials went to work on the surface. The result was a lightning fast racetrack that made for some excellent racing.

Pole starter Scott Palmer led the first nine laps until a caution waved for the slowed car of Matt Cosner. On the restart, Jamie Lathroum found the outside groove to his liking, and passed Palmer up high on the tenth circuit.

By the halfway point, Stuhler had driven his mount from his seventh-place start up to third, before disposing Palmer of the runner-up spot. Over the next few laps, Stuhler caught Lathroum, and made his way to the lead on Lap 22.

Stuhler went on the rest of the way of the 25 Lap feature event in an impressive drive to record his 137th career win at the Hub City oval.

Lathroum finished second, followed by last week’s winner D.J. Myers from his ninth-place start, Palmer, and fifth-place finisher Andy Anderson.

Defending Pure Stock champion Craig Parrill notched his first victory of 2017, driving the Dickie Tharp-owned No.3 Chevy. He was followed at the checkers by Nick DiBella, Jamie Zentmyer, Sean Dawson, and Dwayne Snyder.

Kyle Lear recorded his second Late Model Sportsman win of the season. Following the No. 151 at the finish was Cam Zeigler, Dillan Stake, Michael Walls, and Alan Sagi.

Alex Boozel became the third different Hobby Stock winner of 2017. Finishing behind him was Jamie Mills, Davey Gross, Jr., Bryan Neff, and Dustin Proctor.

This Saturday night, Hagerstown Speedway presents the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series with the 36th annual running of the Stanley Schetrompf Classic. Come see some of the finest Dirt Late Model drivers in the business tackle the Hub City half-mile.  Joining the LOLMDS that night will be the Pure Stock division.

Myers strong in Super Late Model victory at Hagerstown

HAGERSTOWN, MD – D.J. Myers worked his way up to the front of the Super Late Model field, and powered his way to the checkered flag in the 25 Lap Super Late Model main event at Hagerstown Speedway.

Myers made his way from sixth on the grid to get by pole starter Chad McClellan on the tenth lap, and then survived a double-file restart following a Lap 15 caution. Myers checked out from the competition the rest of the way to record his first win of 2017, and his 17th career win at the Hub City oval.

Myers was followed by McClellan, Roy Deese, Jr., Marvin Winters, and opening night winner Gary Stuhler at the finish.

Bobby Beard thwarted off the challenges of last week’s winner Kyle Lear after an early race restart to pull away towards his first Late Model Sportsman win of the season.  It was Beard’s sixth career LMS victory at Hagerstown.

Lear held on to finish second, followed by Barry Miller, Robbie Black, and Alan Sagi in the top five.

The Hobby Stock feature had a competitive battle for the lead throughout the 15 lap distance, and it was Davey Gross, Jr. passing race long leader Bryan Neff with three laps to go to pick up his first career win.

Neff finished second, while Shawn Shoemaker, Dustin Proctor, and Ralph Hansberger completed the top five.

Jamie Zentmyer recorded his second straight Pure Stock feature win. He was followed by runner-up Nick Dibella, Sean Dawson, Keith Koontz, and Frank DiBella.

This coming weekend on April 15 is the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series guaranteed qualifier for Super Late Models, and the ARCH Easter Egg Hunt for kids. Late Model Sportsman, Pure Stocks, and Hobby Stocks round out the card. General admission is $15, and pit admission is $30.

The egg hunt commences at 3pm, and race time is set to begin at 7pm.

Stuhler wins 70th Anniversary opener at Hagerstown Speedway

HAGERSTOWN, MD – Veteran driver Gary Stuhler knows his way to Victory Lane at Hagerstown Speedway. The Greencastle, PA ace is the winningest driver in Hagerstown Speedway history, and he added one more to his illustrious career. Stuhler drove his Glenn Elliott-owned No.55 Black Diamond chassis from a sixth-place start to score his 135th Super Late Model win at the Hub City oval with a pass over race-long leader Brian Tavenner at the halfway mark.

Stuhler pulled away over the final ten circuits of the 25 Lap main event to win in convincing fashion over runner-up Tavenner, defending track champion Scott Palmer, Kenny Moreland, and Jason Covert.

Stuhler’s win also automatically qualifies him for Bedford Speedway’s 81st anniversary program in July.

In Crate Late Model action, Logan Roberson powered past leader Allen Brannon with six laps to go to grab the feature win. Brannon held on to second, while Mike Franklin, Steve Lowery, and Transtan Stoner completed the top five. It was the 2nd overall win of the season for the youthful racer from Waynesboro, VA.

Kyle Lear dominated the competition in his heat race, and in the Late Model Sportsman feature to record his first win of 2017. He was followed distantly by Bobby Beard, Alan Sagi, Cam Zeigler, and Barry Miller.

Jamie Zentmyer took the lead from Keith Koontz on the fourth lap, and never looked back to record his first Pure Stock win of the season. Zentmyer was followed by Sean Dawson, Koontz, Nick DiBella, and Craig Parrill.

Wrapping up the night was the Hobby Stock feature, and Dustin Proctor took the victors.

Hagerstown Speedway presents a regular show on April 8, with Super Late Models, Late Model Sportsman, Pure Stocks, and Hobby Stocks. The racing action will begin at 7pm. General admission is $15, kids age 12 and under are free, and pit admission is $30.

Hagerstown Speedway Set For 70th Season Opener

HAGERSTOWN, MD – With a nice turnout of 62 race teams at the Test & Tune Practice Day on March 25 completed, the attention now turns to Opening Day at Hagerstown Speedway, officially kicking off the milestone 70th anniversary season for the 2017 campaign.

The Hagerstown Speedway staff extends its thanks and appreciation to everyone who participated in the practice day.

The 2017 race season begins on April 1 with the Thomas All Things Automotive Super Late Models racing to win an automatic qualifier for Bedford Speedway’s 81st Anniversary race held on July 14.

Defending Super Late Model track champion Scott Palmer, along with former track champions Marvin Winters and Roy Deese, Jr. are just a few drivers expected to be on hand looking to etch their name in history as an Opening Day winner.

2016 Late Model Sportsman champion Kyle Lee has moved up to the Super Late Model division, and look for him to be in the hunt for victory as well.

The Late Model Sportsman, Pure Stocks, Hobby Stocks, and Crate Late Models will also be featured on the card of events.

Also, track promoter Doug Timmons has announced that trophy sponsorships are available for regular shows only at the cost of $100 per night. Trophy sponsors will be able to present the awards to the winning drivers at the conclusion of each feature, and participate in the Victory Lane ceremonies. Pit gates open at 3:30, grandstand gates will open at 4:00, and hot laps are scheduled to begin at 6:00. General admission is $15, while kids 12 and under are free. Pit admission is $30.
