Winters Wires SLM Field for 2nd Hagerstown Triumph

HAGERSTOWN, MD – Marvin Winters wired the Thomas All Things Automotive Super Late Model field from start to finish to pick up his second feature win of the season at Hagerstown Speedway.

Driving his familiar Tex Shaffer-owned No.46 Rocket XR-1, Winters drove off from fellow front row starter Scott Palmer at the start, held off the challenges of Gary Stuhler, and then a fast-closing Nick Dickson towards the end of the 25 lap main event.

“We had to take advantage of a pole spot; you don’t get those very often. The bottom was pretty good for me, so I stayed on it. I figured Gary (Stuhler) would be coming on the bottom if I had left it open.”, said Winters.

Dickson held on to second, while Gene Knaub made a late pass on Stuhler to take third. Stuhler finished fourth, and Matt Parks finished fifth.

“The Captain” Ralph Morgan grabbed the 20 lap Late Model Sportsman feature for his first win of the season at Hagerstown. In his Black Diamond chassis No.44, Morgan got around Barry Miller past the halfway point to take to lead and went on to almost a two second advantage at the finish.

Randy Burkholder finished third, Paul Cursey, Jr. was fourth, and Michael Walls was fifth.

Keith Koontz was victorious for the first time in 2017, taking home the accolades in the 15 lap Pure Stock feature. Koontz withstood the challenges of Mike Walls, while Craig Parrill chased the top duo for most of the feature race.

Following the top three at the checkers were Brandon Churchey and Dillon Wilson.

Jonathan Raley scored again in the Hobby Stock division for his fourth Hagerstown win of the season. Raley rebounded from an early miscue to drive back around Jamie Mills for lead, then went on to visit victory lane for the third straight time in two weeks.

Mills held on to finish second, Davey Gross, Jr. was third, Bryan Neff was fourth, and James Speelman finished fifth.

Rounding out the night was a special appearance for the 4 Cylinder Mini-Stocks, and it was Allen Whitt, Jr. that took the top honors after swapping the lead a few times with Randy Linaburg. Vance Williams, Mike Kershner, and Tommy Whitt completed the top five.
