Hagerstown Opener Accolades to Lee, Daniels, and Zambotti

HAGERSTOWN, MD – Kyle Lee drove from his seventh-place start to the Super Late Model victory in an exciting 73rd season opener at Hagerstown Speedway. It was the third career SLM win for the former track champion out of Mercersburg, Pennsylvania behind the wheel of his D & D Auto Recycling No.2t.

Nick Dickson and Andy Anderson paced the field at the start, with Anderson taking the top spot on the backstretch to lead the first circuit. While Anderson and Dickson were out front, Trever Feathers quickly moved into third from his fourth row start.

Anderson had a five car length advantage over Dickson in the Bruce Kane Racing No.25 by the tenth lap, and raced into traffic by the halfway mark. By this point, Feathers began hounding Dickson for second place, and then Lee entered into the fold moving past Feathers.

A caution for debris erased Anderson’s lead and setup a wild restart on Lap 17. Anderson’s car didn’t fire off the corner well on the restart. Dickson regained the top position for a lap while a four car battle jumbled off of turn two for third.

Logan Roberson moved from sixth to third, and then Lee moved around Dickson for the lead the next lap before the caution waved for Anderson, who went pitside.

On the final restart of the 25 lap main event, Lee charged away from Dickson and Roberson as Feathers moved in to second over the last few laps. But Feathers couldn’t mount a serious challenge as Lee drove away to victory.

“The fans come to see a race and I think that’s what they seen”, said Lee in his winner’s interview with Richard Newcomer. “I know everybody’s anxious to come out and watch the races, and I was anxious to get back to a local track. The track was great tonight. It’s the raciest I’ve seen Hagerstown in a long time, and I hope it’s a good start to the year”.

Dickson was third, followed by Roberson, and Justin Weaver rounded out the top five.

Brady Daniels resumed his winning ways in picking up the first Hobby Stock feature win of the 2020 season. It was his fourth career win.

Daniels picked up the lead on Lap 9, passing pole sitter Cody Sumption, who led the opening laps of the 15 lap feature event.

Tom Caravello also passed Sumption into second place on Lap 9, and battled Daniels briefly for the lead, but the recent high school graduate from Harrisonvile, Pennsylvania held Caravello off the rest of the way.

Sumption finished third in his Ford Thunderbird amongst a field of GM products. Finishing fourth and fifth were Andrew Fertig and Codey Breeden.

Joey Zambotti repeated opening night wins as he made the long tow from Kittanning, Pennsylvania worth the trip to score his seventh career triumph at Hagerstown in the15 lap Pure Stock feature. Zambotti dominated the race, but had to hold off Michael Warrenfeltz on a late race restart to take the win.

They were followed by Dylan Rutherford, Randy Zechman, and Wayne Hawbaker at the finish.

Notes: A great turnout of cars showed in the pit area, and a great show of support in the grandstands was on hand for the season opener.

Each feature winner respectively won their qualifying heat race, but neither of them started on the pole.

Daniels and Zambotti each earned guaranteed starts in next weekend’s Hub City 100.

Kenny Moreland had a great drive in the SLM feature to finish seventh after winning the B-main to earn the 19th spot on the feature grid. Numerous drivers made advances from their starting spots proving how good the racing and track conditions were.

Hagerstown Speedway Season Opener set for this Saturday

HAGERSTOWN, MD –  It’s been a longtime waiting for racing in the Hub City due to the Covid-19 pandemic that has caused interruptions across the world to daily living, and brought sporting events along with social gatherings to a halt.

It’s been a two month long wait. The wait is finally over.

Coming up this Saturday, May 30, Hagerstown Speedway will finally open the doors to the 73rd season opener with Super Late Models, Pure Stocks, and Hobby Stocks.

The 25 lap Super Late Model feature pays $2,000 to win, while the Pure Stock and Hobby Stock winners will earn a guaranteed start in the Hub City 100 on June 6.  Both stock classes will run under the small car national rules opening day.  Visit the website for details www.hagerstownspeedway.com 

Due to social distancing and gathering guidelines, for this event and the time being until further announcements are made, EVERYONE attending will be considered an event participant.

Racers and crew members participating will be permitted to enter the track restricted area on the inside pit, while all other supporters will be permitted outside the pit area. Insurance admission for the outside area is $15, and competitors/crew for the inside pit is $30.

All persons attending will be required to sign a release waiver.

Track concession stands will be open with social distancing guidelines of maintaining a distance of at least six feet apart. Wearing masks is encouraged, but only required when communicating outside of your family group.

Gates open at 4:30pm with racing starting at 7:00pm.

Tune and Test May 23rd approved but NO SPECTATORS

Good news.. Hagerstown Speedway will reopen this Saturday! However due to Maryland state mandates, the event for Saturday, May 23rd has been changed to an open practice event.

We recommend that everyone reads and understands the following guidelines:

NO SPECTATORS WILL BE ALLOWED AT THIS EVENT.  NO CONGREGATING OUTSIDE YOUR PIT AREA NO EXCEPTIONS

Strict social distancing policies are in place and no groups larger than 10 family/crew members per race team.  All members must be together in/on the car hauler at time of entrance and stay in/on haulers at time of registration.  NO WALK THRU PERMITTED. Please plan accordingly.   Thank you for co operating with these changes.

Face masks and social distancing requirements are to be followed.

No food or drink will be sold at the track. Please plan accordingly.

If you are ill or at risk, we ask that you stay home.

You must stay in your designated pit area. You are not permitted to leave your designated pit area for social gathering.

Portable Restrooms are available with Hand Sanitizer.  Wear Mask outside your pit area when using the units and keep 6 feet away from others.

Announcements will be made via FM transmitter 89.9FM

These requirements must be followed in order for us to reopen. We want to get back to racing just as much as you do.

MONSTER JAM 2020 CANCELED

Due to the increasing spread of COVID-19 and expanding restrictions on domestic and international travel, and in accordance with national, state and local governments prohibiting large group gatherings, the Monster Jam event scheduled July 24-26 at Hagerstown Speedway, has been cancelled.

15th Annual Bonanza Extravaganza CANCELLED

It is with deep sadness that we must confirm the postponement of the 15th Annual Bonanza Extravaganza, which benefits first responders and local charitable organizations.
We are first responders and our primary concern will always be the health, safety and well-being of our community. We strongly believe that this is the right decision following the recommendations and mandates from the Center for Disease Control and Prevention and Governor Hogan regarding large gatherings. This will help prevent the spread of the virus to our staff, volunteers and our loyal supporters.
The Bonanza Extravaganza will now take place May 7th & 8th, 2021. All current drawing ticket and guest pass holders for the 2020 Bonanza Extravaganza will be honored for 2021. This event is SOLD OUT. ULTIMATE Northeast opener at Hagerstown postponed

Officials with the ULTIMATE Northeast Super Late Model Series and Hagerstown Speedway have announced that the season opener, slated for March 28th has been postponed with no rescheduled date immediately available. Maryland Governor, Larry Hogan, by executive order closed all non-essential business in the state effective at 5:00 pm on Monday. The executive order is indefinite. ULTIMATE Northeast Super Late Model Series and Hagerstown Speedway officials will continue to monitor the situation and work toward the rescheduled date once a more definitive timeline is available.

“Our number one concern is always the safety of our fans and teams,” said ULTIMATE Northeast Director, Rose Compton, “We are continuously monitoring the situation and will announce any updates as they become available.”

FASTRAK Companies International, parent company of the ULTIMATE Northeast Super Late Model Series, previously issued a statement amid the COVID-19 outbreak and is taking a race by race approach in response to the outbreak.

“We remain committed to taking a race by race approach in response to current events,” said FASTRAK Companies International Vice President DJ Irvine, “We want to get back to racing, and some sense of normalcy, as quickly as possible. However, we must remain dedicated to the safety of our fans, teams, and officials. The situation remains fluid all across the country, and we will follow all orders from federal, state, and local officials.”

The ULTIMATE Northeast is set to open its 3rd season of competition, all of which have opened at the Hagerstown, MD oval. Trevor Feathers won the season opener in 2018, with Justin Weaver taking the checkered flag in 2019. Jared Miley is the defending back to back champion of the ULTIMATE Northeast Super Late Series.
